Milan Design Capital
April in Milan stands for “Design”
Ahh…Milan! How can we not love the Italian fashion capital and the world’s design capital?! Any design lover and luxury will agree with us. Especially now, a few days before the Milan Design Week kicks off.
The Milan Design Week is host annually during the month of April (this year from Tuesday 17 until Sunday 22) and among all the event, the Milan Furniture Fair (in Italian, Salone Internazionale del Mobile) and Fuorisalone are surely the spotlights of it.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is the largest trade fair and exhibition of this kind and it mainly showcases the latest result of studies, research and innovation from countries around the world in furniture and design. It dates back to 1961 and nowadays is located at Rho, inside the pavilions of FieraMilano Spa, the most important a trade fair and exhibition organizer in Italy. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile has proven to attract more than 300.000 visitors from over 165 countries and more than 5.000 journalists all over the world.
On the other hand, the Fuorisalone cannot be labelled as an exhibition, since it doesn’t have the same centralized organization and it’s not managed by a single administrative organization. It was spontaneously created during the ’80, by the willingness of some companies active in the business of décor and industrial design. Now it has witnessed a major expansion in many related areas such as automotive industry, technologies, telecommunications, art, fashion and food. Even nowadays the singles companies are independently organized, to create a wide range of events spread all over the city of Milan.
And to live the Milan Design Week at it full, why not visiting a one-of-a-kind design store? Of course, we are talking about Moroni Gomma!
Located in the heart of Milan, Moroni Gomma is a store hosting a wide range of design objects, household articles, gadgets and gift ideas chosen for its originality. Some of them can be seen even in the most exclusive design stores of the world, from Conran’s shop in London to the Moma in New York. Its selection of products is so wide and complete that if you cannot find an item at Moroni Gomma, then it will be difficult to find it elsewhere!
We are sure, though, that while there you will be able to recognise some familiar silhouettes…
